Discover Salado, a wondrous village found in Bell County, Texas. Salado was incorporated in 2003 and had a population of 3,475 as of the 2000 census. Salado is best known for being home to the Stagecoach Inn, the oldest continuously running hotel in Texas. Salado also is proud to have been home to George Washington Baines, a prominent Baptist clergyman in three states and the maternal great-grandfather of U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson. George Washington Baines lived in Salado in his last years and today Baines' home is a national historic landmark. Salado was also an original stop for the stage lines and was home for the first coeducational college in the state of Texas.
